Why Amateur Boxing?

Welcome to my blog -In Ev’s Corner -Feel free to look around and comment.

Amateur Boxing?! Why would you want to do that? Aren’t you concerned about you face? You don’t actually get hit though?!…Right?

This is basically the reaction that I get from most people when I tell them that I’m an amateur boxer. And then a lot of them just don’t believe me and think that I’m joking.

I had always wanted to do some sort of martial arts as a kid, and I was involved in many sports from basketball, to floor hockey, sailing and playing soccer on two teams. I would like to think that I am a natural athlete.

As a child, that’s what I wanted to be…an Athlete. But I soon realized that it was too late to be a soccer star, and I was too short to be a pro basketball player. So my dreams of being an athlete disappeared.

It all started about 4 years ago. My previous roommate was taking this beginner boxing class and asked me if I’d like to drop in for a free class.  It was nearing the summer break of my first year in college and I thought that it would be a good break. Being in college, I had decided to stop all sports to focus on studying. This was probably the worst decision I could have made, because there really was no balance between work and play.

After the first class I was hooked. I was so sore the next day, that I could hardly lift my arms. It wasn’t like any other sport I had ever done…and I knew that I wasn’t going to stop doing it anytime soon.

Four years later, I am now training full time, improving every day and getting ready for more competitions!

Have a great day! -Ev
